Reading the chart
How to read a chart, and how to find the key levels where markets react again and again.
A Memoir and a Beginner’s Guide ◆ Global Edition
The Uncomfortable Journey from Scarcity to Markets, Money, Mistakes, and Mastery
Every trader starts from zero.
This is how to build from there.
The idea behind the title
“Price has a memory. It keeps coming back to the places where it turned before, because the people who bought or sold there remember them too. Learn to see those places and the chart stops looking like noise.”
Chapter 19, Key Levels — Where Price Remembers
Key levels are the price zones where a market has turned before and tends to react again. They’re the tool Lau trusts most. Not because they predict anything, but because they show you where to pay attention, and where you’re wrong.
The chart on this page is a live illustration. Watch the gold band: every time price comes back to it, the market “remembers.”
What you’ll learn
How to read a chart, and how to find the key levels where markets react again and again.

How to build, test, and follow a simple trading plan.
How stock markets and crypto work wherever you live, plus a 90-day roadmap, checklists, and free journal templates.
Inside the book

Conclusion: The Journey Is Bigger Than the Trade

My relationship with money started long before I opened a trading account. It started in Samar, a large, mostly rural island in the eastern Visayas, the central part of the Philippines, in a household where money was always the first thing to run out. By any honest measure, we were poor.
I want to begin there because every trade I have ever made carried a little of that house with it.
Whenever I asked for something as a child, my parents gave me the same answer: “We don’t have the money. Study hard, so you can buy whatever you want someday.”
They weren’t being unkind. They were telling me the truth, and they were handing me the only plan they could see. Both of them were government employees. With five children to raise (I have four siblings), they covered our needs and still found a way to keep all of us in school. I didn’t understand at the time what that cost them. I understand it better now that I have children of my own. Education was the one thing they could give us that nobody could take back, so they paid for it, whatever it took.
Growing up like that teaches you early that life is hard without enough money. There were nights when dinner was instant noodles stretched with extra water so everyone could have something before bed. You don’t forget meals like that.
My first financial lesson had nothing to do with investing. It was about scarcity: learning, very young, the difference between wanting something and being able to afford it.
When I was about ten, I started collecting empty bottles and scrap metal and selling them. The money was tiny. But it meant I could buy a snack without asking my parents for money they didn’t have, and that felt enormous. Looking back, it was a child’s version of running a business. I had a small cash-flow problem, and I solved it with the only resources I had: time, legs, and whatever other people threw away.

For readers worldwide
“The market doesn’t care where you were born, and neither do the lessons in these pages. Risk, position sizing, discipline, key levels, a trading plan, the way fear and greed show up in your body: these work the same in Lagos, London, Lima, Mumbai, Toronto, or Samar.”
A Note for Readers Around the World
Peso amounts from the story come with a rough US-dollar figure. The key-levels chapter uses plain prices with no currency at all. Swap in dollars, pounds, euros, rupees or yen, and the percentages and steps stay the same.
The stock-market chapter works through one exchange step by step, then compares it with the US, UK, Europe, Japan, India, Hong Kong and crypto.
Anything that only applies in the Philippines sits in a box marked If you’re in the Philippines, and local words like jeepney and OFW are explained where they first appear.

Yes. It explains how a stock market works from broker account to first order, what crypto can and can’t do, and how to keep crypto safe from hacks and scams with sensible choices of exchange and wallet.
That’s what the Global Edition is for. The methods are market-neutral, the examples convert easily, and Philippine-only details are boxed off so you can skip them. You should still check your own country’s rules with your broker, regulator and tax adviser.
No. It’s education and one person’s experience. The numbers in the book are part of the author’s story, not promises about yours. Trading carries real risk of loss.
